Kay Veloy

Kay Veloy Hovland (79) of Springfield,MO passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.

Kay was born on June 16, 1945 in Buffalo Center, IA, the daughter of Gilmer and Virgil (Andersen) Haugen. She was raised on a farm in Leland, IA with her two brothers, Jan and Cal Haugen. She graduated from Forest City High School, IA. She then attended Business School in Omaha, NE. She married her soulmate, David Lowell Hovland from Lake Mills, IA on February 6, 1965 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland, IA. They lived and loved life to the fullest and were blessed with 48 years of marriage. Together they worked hard over the years owning several businesses.

Kay was a woman of many talents, she played piano beautifully and loved to prepare meals for her family, especially during the holidays.

Kay’s love for family was undeniable. She was a remarkable wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her friends deeply. Kay’s journey through life was optimistic, even with the challenges she would face. To all who knew Kay, she will be deeply missed.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Gilmer and Virgil Haugen; her husband, Dave; and a daughter, Kimberly Jo Hovland.

Kay is survived by her children: Brad and Patti Hovland of Maiden Rock, WI, Angela and Brian Curry of Blue Eye, MO, and Daniel and Amy Hovland of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren: Olivia and Alston Dwyer, Dylan and Kennedy Hovland, Danyelle Hovland, Nolan Hovland, Amanda Hovland, Jacob Hovland, and Danny Hovland; great-grandchildren: Kora, Thomas, and Nellie; and her siblings: Jan and Ruth Haugen and Cal and Cindy Haugen

Cremation arrangements for Kay were handled by Southwest Cremation in Springfield. A Celebration of Life will be held with family at a future date.
