Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: March 22, 2026

Our Commitment

Southwest Cremation is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that every family deserves equal access to information about our services during what is often the most difficult time in their lives.

We actively work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Conformance Status

This website is substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Substantially conformant means that some parts may not fully conform to the accessibility standard, but we are actively working to address any remaining gaps.

A comprehensive accessibility audit was completed on March 10, 2026, covering all 31 public-facing pages. Issues identified during the audit have been corrected.

A follow-up remediation pass was completed on March 22, 2026, addressing the following:

  • Dark mode color contrast — all text confirmed readable in both light and dark modes across all 31 pages
  • Navigation landmarks — added aria-label attributes to all <nav> elements to distinguish primary, footer, and breadcrumb navigation
  • Form autocomplete — added autocomplete attributes to all contact and pre-planning form fields
  • Interactive elements — ensured all buttons and links have accessible names

Google Lighthouse accessibility score following the March 22 remediation: 96/100.

Accessibility Features

The following accessibility features are implemented across this website:

  • Sufficient color contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text) throughout all pages
  • Keyboard navigation support — all interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard alone
  • Skip to main content link — available to keyboard users on every page
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • Descriptive alt text on all meaningful images; decorative images are marked appropriately
  • Proper form labels associated with every input field
  • Logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) on every page
  • ARIA landmarks (header, main, nav, footer) on every page
  • Dialog/modal focus trapping — keyboard focus is contained within open modals
  • Mobile menu focus management — focus moves to menu on open and returns to trigger on close
  • Reduced motion support — animations respect the prefers-reduced-motion system setting
  • Full dark mode support with maintained contrast ratios
  • HTML language attribute set to English (lang="en")
  • Responsive design — fully functional on mobile, tablet, and desktop at any zoom level

Known Limitations

We are aware of the following areas where we are continuing to improve:

  • Memorial video backgrounds on obituary pages include atmospheric footage without audio description, as they are decorative in nature and do not convey information.
  • Third-party embedded content (such as the Parting Pro online arrangement portal) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We have notified the vendor and encourage users who need assistance to contact us directly.

Technical Specifications

This website relies on the following technologies for conformance:

  • HTML5
  • CSS (including CSS custom properties)
  • JavaScript / React (Next.js)
  • WAI-ARIA 1.2

This website has been tested with the following tools and approaches:

  • Google Lighthouse accessibility audit (automated)
  • Manual code review against WCAG 2.1 AA criteria
  • Keyboard-only navigation testing
