Springfield, MO

Obituary

Gerald Frank Schmidt, Jr. of Springfield, MO departed this life at the young age of 38. Most people in his life knew him as “Jay” or “Paco.”

Jay was born August 24, 1985 to Gerald and Roberta (Wnek) Schmidt in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by both biological parents and both sets of grandparents; his adoptive mom, Renee Evan’s of Springfield; and his sister-in-law, Alicia Teague.

Jay is survived by his daughter, Aliyah and her fiancé, Jason; his son, Korbin; and his first grandchild, a boy, named Asher. He also leaves behind his brother, Josh and sister, Vicki, all of Springfield; along with their children, Harley, Devin, Dale, and Hayden; and their children, Jayden and Jaksyn. He also has an uncle, Joe, of Chicago and two aunts, Ruthie and Toot; and several other nieces and nephews, along with many other friends and family.

Jay was born a micro premie and had some physical issues due to his premature birth, which made his life just a bit more difficult. No matter the situation, he adapted, kept pushing forward, and kept trying to be better than the day before.

He loved his family, loved his children, and would have adored his grandson had he gotten the chance to meet him. His last act on this earth was to donate his organs so another had a chance to live a life that he couldn’t. His passing is a reminder that life is short and we never know what tomorrow brings, so take the risks, take the chances, and live as much as possible while we’re still here.

There will not be a funeral held at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life announced at a later date.
