Christopher John

Christopher J Baker, age 56, passed away on September 25th, 2024 at his residence in Springfield, MO after a courageous and hard-fought battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Chris was born May 3rd, 1968 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

His favorite role was that of dad and grandpa, where he spent countless hours supporting and encouraging not only his three children but also his seven grandkids at their sporting events, school plays, choir concerts, birthday parties, and so much more.

He spent many of his working years at Bluegreen Resorts where he met many amazing friends and celebrated his love of nature and travel. The past year since his diagnosis was spent traveling the world with his loved ones and making memories with his children and grandchildren.

Chris is survived by his children, Ashley Popejoy (Brian) of Nixa, Missouri; Austin Baker (Autumn), of Marshfield, Missouri; Hailey Baker-Wren (Quiglee) of Omaha, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jackson, Parker, Eleanor, Grace, Isaiah, Violet and Ivy; sisters, Kelly Baker (James Wallace) of Glenmoore, Pennsylvania, and Maggie Baker (John Thomae) of Iowa City, Iowa; father and step-mother, Richard and Carol Baker; step-father, Michael Thomas; and aunt, Jackie Foreman, all of Des Moines, Iowa, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Thomas, and daughter, Elyse Baker.

A celebration of life will take place at the Atrium Event Center in Merriam Woods, MO on December 8th, 2024, 2-6pm. Please RSVP by clicking here.

Chris requested no flowers and that any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
